In BSTL we considered that lawyers have the social responsibility to engage part of their time in rendering Pro bono legal services. This responsibility comes from lawyer’s role in society and in their engagement to promote and secure a legal fair and equity system in our country.
Hence, on January 31 of 2008, we subscribed the Declaration of Pro Bono Work for the Americas (Download Statement in PDF here) where we present our commitment with the community and the environment.
To foster our Pro Bono legal services, we have incorporated solid tools that allow us to render free legal services or at a low cost in order to benefit people with low incomes, in situation of social vulnerability or disadvantaged people or communities as well as Non-Profit Organizations (NGOs) that assist them.
These past years, we have made great internal changes with the purpose of professionalize our Pro Bono area of practice, to increase the number of causes, social entrepreneurs, NGOs and disadvantaged people we support.
Our lawyer’s team is well prepared and committed to achieve a 20 hours minimum annually of Pro bono Legal service to ensure the provision provided at the Declaration of Pro Bono Work for the Americas.
Our major satisfaction consists in successfully supporting NGOs in their legal processes with the goal of professionalizing the third sector of our country.
Our clients support the quality of our services and our experience in day-to-day legal counsel. An example is our work with Pro-Bono organizations such as México Unido contra la Delincuencia, Fomento Educacional, LSE Mexican Alumni Association, Ashoka Emprendedores Sociales,Anímate a Estudiar, Fundación de la Barra Mexicana Colegio de Abogados, Fundación Appleseed, Fondo para la inversión en la Educación, Bufetec, Vía Educación, Arquetopia, Ciudad de los niños de Monterrey, Sin Fronteras, New Ventures México, Talleres Productivos para Discapacitados Tecamac, Rehabilitation International, CONFE, Fundación Delfino del Ángel Melo, OB de México, Unidos por el arte contra el cáncer infantil, Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes, Únete dona en vida, World Learning, Chron´s & Colitis and many more.
Moreover, we participate in alliance with many Non-Profit Organizations to review, create and reform laws that support and benefit the society and vulnerable groups, and that contribute to improve the nation.
A consequence of the success we've had with the implementation of Pro Bono area, is reflected in the awards we have received:
- On November 27, 2012, BSTL received the important distinction: “Pro Bono Merit Award 2012”, during the Gala Pro Bono of the Appleseed Mexico Foundation and Red Pro bono Mexico, for building a Pro Bono culture in its offices and by its important work in an exemplary legal work and advice in Pro bono activities to non-profits associations, people, sectors or regions with limited resources.
- Also BSTL was recognized due to their considerable efforts towards the Pro Bono practice and the significant amount of work they do in this practice by Latin Lawyer and Center for International Justice, who launched their first pro-bono survey to 101 countries in 2012.
