Mr. Ruiz received his law degree from the Escuela Libre de Derecho (1973-1978).

Professional Background
Mr. Ruiz interned in the Civil Litigation department of the firm González de Castilla, S.C., from 1973 to 1977, after which he joined Barrera, Siqueiros y Torres Landa, S.C. as an attorney and later became a Partner in the firm.

Mr. Ruiz wrote his thesis on “El consentimiento viciado del asegurador en el contrato de seguro” (The invalid consent of the insurer in the insurance contract) for the Escuela Libre de Derecho (1980). He also wrote chapter 12 titled “Labor Relations in Mexico”, in the book An Introduction to Doing Business in Mexico (1995), co-authoring with William E. Mooz Jr. Co-authoring with Hugo Hernández-Ojeda Alvírez for the Chapter of References de Labour / Employment about México for Latin Lawyer in 2011and 2012.
Relevant Cases
Mr. Ruiz has worked on numerous labor matters for different subsidiaries of General Electric, especially on the acquisition and sale of companies and resulting labor repercussions in terms of managing personnel. He has also been involved in FEMSA Coca-Cola bottler plant closings.
He has negotiated with various unions to review collective bargaining agreements for companies such as Pfizer, Coca-Cola, and General Electric, among others; and has also handled work stoppages negotiated with unions.
Memberships
Member of the Barra Mexicana Colegio de Abogados (Mexican Bar Association) and sits on the Labor Law Commission.
Mr. Ruiz has spoken at various seminars on the topic of strikes for the Human Resources personnel, Plant Managers, and Legal Department of General Electric.
